Futsal, also known as Indoor Soccer, is a sport that was adapted from field soccer to the courts in the 1930s. Futsal is widely practiced in Brazil, being part of one of the main sports activities in Education classes. Physics in schools across the country.

Futsal was created in the city of Montevideo (Uruguay) in 1933. The creator was the teacher of Physical Education of the Christian Association of Young Men of Montevideo, Juan Carlos Ceriani Gravier. This teacher named the sport as Indoor-Foot-Ball.

Futsal features and rules

– The teams are formed by 5 line players (being a goalkeeper) and 7 players, maximum, as reserves.

– Futsal is played on a rectangular court with a hard floor, with measures that vary according to the category. In the Men’s Futsal League, for example, the court must be between 38 and 42 meters long and 18 to 25 meters wide.

– The futsal ball (adult male category) must be between 62 and 64 cm in circumference and weigh between 400 and 440 grams according to FIFA rules. According to the rules of the AMF (World Futsal Association), the ball must be between 60 and 62 cm in circumference and weigh between 430 and 450 grams.

– The referee can use two cards to punish fouls. Yellow (warning) and red (expulsion for 2 minutes or can be substituted by conceding a goal) in FIFA rules. In the AMF rules, he can use three cards: yellow, red and blue.

– Substitutions can take place at any time and in an indefinite number, according to the rules established by FIFA. By the AMF rules, substitutions can only take place with the game stopped.

– Adult category games take place in 40 minutes (2 halves of 20 minutes).

– The positioning of a futsal team follows the following scheme: goalkeeper (defends the goal with hands and feet and can also attack), fixed (defensive player), wing (plays more on the sides), pivot (moves in the attack and weapon thrown).

– Full-backs and corners are charged by the feet, according to FIFA rules. In the AMF rules, they are charged with the hands.
